Olympic National Park Updates - September 1st, 2011

posted Sep 1, 2011, 8:12 PM by Luke Hizer
Looks like things are finally melting out...just in time for Labor Day.  There's not going to be a lot of time to visit the high country, so enjoy it while it lasts.

  • Road conditions: Whiskey Bend and the Olympic Hot Spring roads are closed.  The Graves Creek closure is underway and will last until September 17th. The full road conditions are here.
  • Campgrounds: all campgrounds (non-backcountry) except the Graves Creek Campground are open. The full campground report is here.
  • Trail Conditions - Southeast: Not a lot of recent reports, most trails are assumed snow-free. There's a new bridge open on the Flapjack Lakes Trail. A few of the trails in the Dosewallips area have some patchy snow.
  • Trail Conditions - Northeast: Two passes and their trails in the Hurricane Ridge area still have significant snow: Grand Pass and Cameron Pass. Mountain goats have been following people in this area, be careful. All Elwah trails are snow-free.
  • Trail Conditions - Northwest: Still some snow on the High Divide and other high country trails, but they appear to be clearing out. All other trails in the area are snow-free. There have been some bear sightings on this side of the park, store your food carefully.
  • Trail Conditions - Southwest: Not many updates for these trails, but all are clear or hold only patchy snow in places.
