A few days ago, I mentioned that the back way to St Helens is now open, but they were still working to clear Forest Road 99. Well, it opened this morning:
Forest Road 99 will open the morning of Friday, July 29, 2011, accessing popular east-side Mount St. Helens attractions such as Windy Ridge, Meta Lake and the Miner’s Car where world-class Interpretive Rangers give informational presentations seven days a week.
Visiting this remote and unique location deep within the blast-zone to see the amazing recovery from the 1980 eruption is an experience to be had nowhere else in the world. And only for a short time each year as conditions allow.
