Time to take a look at the latest news and conditions down at Mt Rainier National Park:
Looking at road conditions,
the Park had hoped for Chinook Pass to be open yesterday, and Cayuse Pass to be open this Thursday
. Unfortunately,
checking the WSDOT conditions, its really going to be after Memorial Day
. Not surprising given the large snowfall this year. (Update:
this WSDOT post has more details
)
There's a few updates on the
trail conditions page
. The following trails are not completely snow covered (as of 5/18/11):
Chenuis Falls is snow-free
Green Lake is 70% snow-free
Eagle Peak Trail is 90% snow-covered
Kautz Creek Trail is 83% snow-covered
Rampart Ridge Trail is 75% covered
Trail of the Shadows and Twin Firs Trail are snow-free
Laughingwater Creek Trail has a few bare spots, as do a couple sections of the Wonderland - from Narada Falls to Indian Henry's
All backcountry camps are snow covered.
I snowshoed to Camp Muir on Friday; the road the Paradise was clear and dry. The
Camp Muir page
has been updated with some details from the trip.
