In addition to the opening of FR 25, aka the back way to Mt St Helens, there's also word from the Forest Service that the really, really back way to Mt St Helens (or to Trout Lake), via FR 23 and some other connections is now open.

The climbing report reminds people not to lose their way and provides coordinates:

Aim for the Junction of South Climb Trail #183 and Round the Mountain Trail #9 to find your way down (UTM 10 T 0616678 5111206 - NAD27).

The following waypoints could be helpful for following the summer route:

    • South Climb Trail #183 enters Morrison Creek drainage: UTM 10 T 0616604 5112150 - NAD2
    • South Climb Trail #183 ascends Crescent Ridge: UTM 10 T 0616626 5112991 - NAD27

plus an update on conditions:

Snow pack is patchy around 5500 ft and solid in the 6000+ ft range.  Most climbers are still ascending the winter route via Suksdorf Ridge though there is now a snow-free gap on the route around 8400ft. Skiers and climbers may want to use the summer route via Crescent Ridge at this time. Be aware that cornices are still breaking off along Crescent Ridge, but they can be avoided by staying near the trees on the ridge.
