Update 3/9/11: got this email about the confusing permit system. Check your zones!
We are contacting you because we feel some may have filled out their applications for the Enchantment Permit Area incorrectly due to confusing wording on the webpage. During the lottery application process, you were asked to select an "Entrance" when it should have asked you to select the "Permit Zone" in which you wish to camp.
If you selected the entrance point of your trip rather than the Permit Zone where you wish to camp, your application has been filled out incorrectly. Please call 1-877-444-6777 to correct your application prior to March 20, 2011.
If you asked for and receive a "Core Enchantment Zone" permit, you may camp in that zone for any portion of your trip. Core Enchantment Zone permits are good for camping in all zones and allow you to enter by and camp in any other zone as part of your trip.
Those who obtain permits for the Colchuck, Snow, Stuart, or Eightmile/Caroline Zones may camp only in that zone for which the permit is issued. If you chose one of these as your "Entrance," you will receive a permit that only allows you to camp only in that particular zone.
If your application correctly indicated the zone where you wish to camp then you are not required to do anything.
As a reminder, during the lottery application period you are not prompted to enter your group size. If you are successful in the lottery part of the process, you will be contacted by email and asked to login to www.Recreation.gov and "Accept" your submission and complete the additional information. We wish you good luck with your application.
The lottery will be run as scheduled after March 20, 2011.
The much-awaited permit lottery is open for the Enchantments. Permits are handled through recreation.gov
, the primary page for permits is here
, and should be open through the 20th. From the permit page:
Lottery applications can be made online here until 11:59 pm PT - March 20, 2011.
This lottery is for permits with entry dates between June 15, 2011 and
October 15, 2011.
New this year, there is a two-step process to get an Enchantment Permit.
You are currently in Step 1, where lottery applications are accepted until March 20th, 2011.
For Step 1 you will only be asked for your Entry Date and the Permit
Zone in which you wish to camp. You may list up to 4 alternate Entry
Dates per application. There is a non-refundable application fee of
$6.00 for this step.
Step 2 occurs after March 20th, 2011. You will be notified if your
lottery application was successful or not. If successful in the
lottery, you will be notified at that time and asked to confirm your
trip, supply more information about your trip, and pay the
$5.00/person/day permit use fee.
This is a must-do trip; I recommend three days/two nights to really enjoy it. For more information, please see my Enchantments page.
